Serving as the successor to the Impreza Outback Sport, the Subaru XV Crosstrek debuted for the 2013 model year. This compact SUV offers standard all-wheel drive, an efficient powertrain and a comprehensive list of standard equipment.
2013 to 2015: Subaru XV Crosstrek
A few years after Subaru introduced its compact Impreza, the automaker introduced the Impreza Outback Sport. This model built on the success of the larger Subaru Outback by taking a standard Impreza wagon and raising the ride height and adding larger tires and body cladding. Much like the Outback, the Impreza Outback Sport enjoyed success throughout a model run that lasted about three generations. When it came time to work on the next generation, Subaru decided to further differentiate the Impreza from its off-road variant. Thus, 2013 marked the debut of the Subaru XV Crosstrek.
The XV Crosstrek is based on the Impreza hatchback, but Subaru made some changes to the exterior to hide its relationship. The vehicle has additional ground clearance and lower body cladding to protect body panels. A set of 17-inch wheels come wrapped in larger tires to take you places many crossovers fear to tread. A set of distinctive colors, such as orange and red, finish off the exterior.
Power comes from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 148 horsepower . This can be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). There’s also a hybrid version available, which pairs the 2.0-liter engine with an electric motor to produce 160 horsepower. A CVT is standard with the Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid. No matter which powertrain you pick, Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system comes standard.
All models get a full suite of air bags, a trip computer, air conditioning, cruise control, power locks and windows and an Eco gauge. Starting with the 2015 model year, the XV Crosstrek also includes standard features like a rearview camera and Subaru’s Starlink infotainment system.
A name change and a few other notable updates debuted for 2016, when Subaru removed “XV” from the model name. Check out our Subaru Crosstrek page for more details on models built after the 2015 model year.
